The genie is out of the bottle, we just can’t put it back in.

11 12 2008

Here is our latest ‘educational’ presentation on Social Media.  Starting with some examples, I try to bridge the gap between traditional marketing and the new world of 2 way conversation, collaboration, customer and social engagement.  I am also touching on what I see as the merging worlds of  SEO and Public Relations (PR).  I’m going to blog soon about TRUST 2.0 and Relevancy.  I find it fascinating that web 2.0 and social media technologies are enabling people and organizations to build trustworthy relationships… like in a village. People tend to forget that we can discuss, debate and look each other in the eyes to create meaning.

Social Media is not even perfected but as I heard this morning, “the genie is out of the bottle, we just can’t put it back in”.  Brands, businesses, people have the opportunity to embrace. Embracing is a difficult act … but if you don’t,  Digital Divide 2.0 will put your competition ahead.

I hope you like it and as always look forward to your comments, questions.

Cheers

Yann

I just found your blog while searching for something else. You seem to be giving words to what many folks are understanding. I plan to spend some time reading what you have written and then commenting on my blog.

What you say share here: “Social Media is not even perfected but as I heard this morning, “the genie is out of the bottle, we just can’t put it back in,” is so truth. I struggle with staying authentic and not making mistakes. Like the other day I used socializer to submit a blog post to some of the social bookmarketing services. Well, I included Twitter (I am very new to twitter), and when it showed up on Twitter it had a link to my blog. Oops I thought. That is supposed to be a no-no, so I apologized and won’t do it again. Yet I see many that do.

Anyway, great post! Truly.

Glad you found us while searching for something else. Google is a friend of social media, every blog is an SEO opportunity and create relevancy…

It sounds like your socializer feed into twitter was not as bad I you thought. I wouldn’t say it’s a no-no but more a yes yes. The beauty of RSS is that you can spread your words… good words and “writing the heart” work better indeed. Writing through the ‘higher purpose’ road is what carries brands and personal brands through social media.
